Look, there
really is an innocent explanation- - and it was “freshwater fishing”, I swear- - but my iPhone is
refusing all attempts at rescuscitation* after being dropped in the
toilet.
Even though I’m
going to miss those empathetic inquiries from my brother Nate (“hey Pottymouth-- how’s it going?!”),
I’ve made the difficult decision to end the deathwatch for ‘Fritz’, the incredible swimming iPhone, at long
last.
So now I’m on my
way to the Apple store. I suppose that means some bright & perky sales associate will start to
explain the frequent buyers’ program they’re launching in my honor:
“Now, Ms.
Elwood”, she’ll say slowly and deliberately, like I’m a cross-eyed kindergartner with a serious Ritalin
deficiency, “we’re going to stamp this nice little card every time you come in to visit us. And Ms.
Elwood, when you’ve bought nine iPhones, we’re going to give you the tenth one free,
okay?”
As if
I’m the problem. I’m just searching for an iPhone that likes long walks on the
beach and cuddling by the fire, so why do they keep matching me up with these swashbuckling adventurers who
go skinny-dipping in the loo and joyriding on the roof of my
car?
They've been
doomed relationships so far, but I sure do love my handy little iPhone(s). Next week we’ll go back
to current marketing issues with a look at why Godiva’s latest move may not be such a sweet success, but for
now, find a few new apps to try on your own iPhone, Blackberry, or Droid from my list
below:
 |
Fluent News Reader: a one-stop source for news. Customized
coverage. |
 |
Gate Guru: here's how to find anything, in almost any airport. |
 |
Perfect Photo: crop, rotate, colorize, & edit the photos you
take from your smartphone. |
 |
Direct Call: the fastest way to contact your most-frequently dialed
number- - or why not program it to dial your favorite marketing strategy consultant?! |
 |
Groupon: going, going, gone- - a fantastic 'deal-of-the-day' in your
local area. |
 |
FAAD (Free App A Day): usually games. Worth a look, especially if you
have kids. |
 |
Pandora: a mobile "radio" designed around your personal music
preferences. |
 |
ToDo: productivity for fans of David Allen's "Getting Things
Done." |
 |
Key Ring Reward Cards: keep your shopper cards here for use at
in-store scanners. |
 |
MotionX GPS Drive: recommended by Jack Harmon in the Speed Dial
featuring readers' travel tips, this app is my substitute for a Garmin or TomTom. |
 |
Occasions Birthdays & More!: syncs up important dates from your
contact list and Facebook friends, adds key national holidays, and sends you customized
reminders. |
 |
How to Cook Everything: well, it doesn't get much more comprehensive
than that, does it? |
 |
Andrew Johnson: melt your cares away with Andrew's soothing Scottish
brogue. Unfortunately, does not work when your iPhone is, say, underwater. |
 |
Dragon Dictation: talk to your smartphone, then send what you've said
as an email or text. |
 |
College Football Live!: as a diehard fan of the winningest program in
college football, this app is front & center for me every Fall. Go Blue! |
I hope you'll enjoy these apps this week, and I'll see you
next Tuesday! - Marie
* CPR
(Cell Phone Rescue): dried my iPhone off, blow dried it, wrapped it in pantyhose & submerged it
in a bowl of Damp-Rid for over a week in hopes of sucking out the moisture. Fritz was still
fried.
